hs5 location edit2APS has formed a committee to develop attendance areas for the new P-8 school and high school to be constructed on the P-20 campus site. The boundary process also includes several APS schools in east Aurora.

The committee goals include:

  • Establish an attendance area for the new P-8, scheduled to open in August 2010.
  • Establish an attendance area for the new high school, scheduled to open in August 2011.
  • Assess the current attendance areas and capacities of the following schools and adjust boundaries as needed:
    • Altura Elementary
    • Clyde Miller Elementary
    • Side Creek Elementary
    • Aurora Frontier K-8
    • Murphy Creek K-8
    • East Middle School
    • Mrachek Middle School
    • Gateway High School
    • Hinkley High School
    • Rangeview High School
  • Preserve a sense of community and neighborhood schools.

The committee will meet during the spring and fall of 2009 to analyze enrollment data and trends and develop feasible attendance area scenarios. Later in the fall, the committee will hold open houses to share the scenarios and gather feedback from parents, staff and community members.

Based on the data collected and community input, the committee will present recommendations to the APS Board of Education in December 2009. If the board approves the recommendations, new boundaries would go into effect for the 2010-11 school year.

The attendance area committee includes parents, community and staff members. To learn more about the committee and the attendance area process, visit www.aps.k12.co.us/boundary.
