Superintendent’s Book Challenge - and Beyond

SavionA Gateway High School student is taking Superintendent John L. Barry’s book challenge to heart - and beyond! Teacher Carrol Fleming is honoring student Savion Morrison-Cook for taking the book challenge to a higher level:

“I see all sorts of students move through my classroom - some read and write more effectively than others. However, I rarely have truly remarkable situations. A student of mine took the superintendent’s challenge of reading 25 books quite seriously last year. This school year, he planned to double his goal. However, he has gone above and beyond. At last count, he had read well over 60 books! The writing he produces related to his books is thoughtful and extensively detailed. His commitment to this study has been truly stunning!”

- Carrol Fleming, Gateway High School

Congratulations, Savion!

At Hinkley High School, 17 students in David Nickolof’s English class also completed the book challenge, along with 29 additional students throughout Mr. Nickolof’s other classes.
