Students Highlight Math Mastery at Game 24 Tournament
At South Middle School, 24 students from six APS middle schools competed in the annual Game 24 Math Challenge.
In groups of four, students picked cards that included four numbers and calculated equations that equaled 24 using only addition, subtraction, multiplication or division. One group of students received the numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4 on their card. They then shouted out equations with those numbers that equaled 24: “4 x 3 = 12, 12 x 2 = 24, 24 / 1 = 24!”
West Middle School student Martin Carrera and Columbia Middle School students Sammy Al-Najar, Heath Price and Luke Smith found the most solutions in the shortest amount of time. The four students received medals and trophies as tournament winners.
