AFJROTC Brings It Home

Latest Update: The CO-861 AFJROTC wrapped up the 2008-2009 drill competition season with an impressive performance at the Denver Coliseum in April. They competed against 29 schools from Colorado, Utah, and Kansas. For the second time in consecutive competitions, both of the color guards placed, one winning first and the other second place in their respective divisions.The first place team won with an impressive 15 points over the next school in the competition. They won first place overall in the unarmed category. This was one of the two top awards presented to the school with the best regulation drill teams without arms combined with that school’s exhibition without arms score. In individual competition, regulation drill Cadet Devon Mcgill won a 9th place trophy out of 425 cadets who competed. The overall results were as follows:

  • Overall Regulation Drill w/o arms First Place
  • Color Guard - Division A First Place
  • Color Guard - Division B Second Place
  • Regulation Drill w/o arms Second Place
  • Exhibition Drill w/arms Fourth Place
  • Exhibition Drill w/o arms Fifth Place



ACHS AFJROTCCongratulations to the Aurora Central High School AFJROTC Rolling Thunder Drill Team. On March 14 the team competed in the Northern Plains Drill Meet hosted by Loveland High School Army JROTC. Out of five team events, Rolling Thunder brought home 4 trophies.

  • Inspections, commanded by Christopher Ortiz, second place
  • Infantry Drill Regulation, commanded by Michael Moran, second place
  • Color Guard, commanded by Gladys Aguilar, third place
  • LET 1 commanded by Melissa Lopez, third place.

During the Knock Out, where all cadets are judged on their individual performance, Central students won 5 of the 10 top spots.

  • Oscar Morales: 10th
  • Melissa Lopez: 8th
  • Gladys Aguilar: 4th
  • Nely Suarez: 3rd
  • Mynor Cornado: 1st place
