APS Student Succeeding with ACEWritten by Jennifer Stadler

Jon Call is no ordinary APS student and recently had an extraordinary day. Call is a student with autism at Pickens Technical College. On any other day he would have gotten up and gone to school, but on this day, Call woke up early, got ready and went to work with three APS electricians. Call spent the morning stripping wires and learning more about what electricians do every day. After his morning with the electricians, Call returned to Pickens smiling and very pleased with all the tasks that he achieved.

Call is just one APS student who is allowed the opportunity to work with professionals in their field through Alternative Cooperative Education (ACE). ACE is a program that allows students to learn hands-on skills once a week for a couple of hours. Because of successful stories like this one, the program will be expanded to include additional students.
