Art and music classes at Columbia Middle School are a positive experience for students. That’s especially true for those in Aaryn Novy and Darius Pope’s classrooms. The duo teaches a course known as “Positive Art and Music” to Life Skills students. The group is split into two and spends time in both classrooms each day.
“They make my day! I have learned to value my time with each student,” said Pope.
An important part of the class comes from what Novy calls “peer helpers.” The students must apply to be in the class and if accepted, help the Life Skills students perform different tasks.
