Rangeview Student Wins National Scholarship
Michael Funk, a Rangeview High School senior and member of the Rangeview High School National Honor Society, has been named one of 53 State Winners in the National Honor Society (NHS) scholarship from the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). One hundred and fifty NHS state Finalists were first chosen from among more than 6,000 applications. From the 150 finalists, 53 State Winners were selected. Each State Winner will receive a $1,500 college scholarship.
Participating high school National Honor Society chapters from across the
country nominated two senior high members to compete in this year’s
program. Finalists were selected on the basis of their leadership skills,
participation in service organizations, clubs and other student groups at
school and in the community; and their academic record. As a State Winner, Michael Funk is recognized as one of the top NHS members in the nation this year.
“We are proud to recognize Michael Funk, for his outstanding achievements and contributions to his school.” said David Cordts, associate director, NHS. “Students nominated for the NHS scholarship not only demonstrate academic excellence, but also extraordinary performance in service, leadership, and character - traits that are more important today than ever before. In recognizing leadership and involvement in student activities as well as strong academic performance, the NHS scholarship acknowledges the importance of a well-rounded education. Co-curricular student activities help all students grow and are an essential part of the school curriculum.”
While maintaining straight A’s at Rangeview High School, Michael Funk has
been a Senior Class Treasurer, lettered in soccer, track, cross country and academics, and participated in service projects. Last fall he organized and led an Eagle Scout Service project at Riverside Cemetery where he and many volunteers helped preserve the history at Riverside Cemetery. This fall he plans to attend Brigham Young University to study Accounting.
