WHAT: First day of school activities - including news conference
WHEN: August 5
WHERE: All APS schools

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

Wednesday, August 5 will be a busy day for APS Superintendent John L. Barry. He will ride a school bus with students, speak with all incoming freshmen, serve lunch to students and deliver his “kick-off” address. Expected attendees at the kick-off event include Aurora Mayor Ed Tauer and APS Board of Education members.

Members of the media are welcome to attend any of the following activities:

5:30-6:30 a.m. - morning show live shots
Superintendent Barry will be available for interviews at the APS Transportation Department, 160 Airport Blvd, 80011

6:30 a.m. departure - school bus ride along
Media can ride a school bus with Superintendent Barry from the APS Transportation Department, 160 Airport Blvd, 80011

7-7:30 a.m. - school greeting
Superintendent Barry will greet students and staff at North Middle School, 12095 Montview Blvd, 80010

8-8:30 a.m. - freshmen assembly
Incoming freshmen will hear from Superintendent Barry at Aurora Central High School, 11700 E 11th Ave, 80010

9-9:30 a.m. - freshmen assembly #2
Incoming freshmen will hear from Superintendent Barry at Hinkley High School, 1250 Chambers Rd, 80011

10-10:30 a.m. - first day of school “kick-off” address - news conference
Superintendent Barry, APS staff and City of Aurora dignitaries will speak at Wheeling Elementary School, 472 S Wheeling St, 80012
NOTE: Thanks to the generous support of Aurora voters, a portion of the 2008 bond funds were used to build a new gymnasium at Wheeling. The new gym will be revealed at the first day celebration.

11:15-11:45 a.m. - lunch with students
Superintendent Barry will serve lunch to students and staff at Park Lane Elementary School, 13001 E 30th Ave, 80011
