CSAP TollgateThe 2009 CSAP test scores are cause for celebration in Aurora. APS posted the largest district gains in the past seven years with a two percent increase overall. The state had a one percent increase. “We’re really, really excited about this news. Our scores clearly reflect the hard work of staff and students,” said Superintendent John L. Barry.

For the first time, APS had no significant losses of more than two percent at any grade level or subject. APS also saw an overall increase in 20 of the 27 tests.

In addition to test scores, APS is celebrating the recently released CSAP growth data. Essentially this data indicates how much a student has grown academically in each of the three test subjects, math, reading and writing.

  • APS exceeded the overall state median growth rate in all three subjects (math, reading, and writing) assessed for the second year in a row.
  • APS met or exceeded the state median growth rate in 17 of the 21 grade and subject areas.
  • APS also saw an increase in the median growth rate in 17 of the 21 grade and subject areas.
  • APS is rated in the top 10 percent of districts statewide for CSAP growth.

Student CSAP and CSAP growth data saw the highest growth in math while reading and writing scores were at or above the state median.

The Colorado Department of Education recognized APS for its success. Tollgate Elementary School was one of 10 schools recognized by the Colorado Department of Education for its CSAP scores, which have increased three years in a row. “It was exciting that CDE recognized Tollgate staff and students. What you’re seeing at Tollgate is a result of excellent teachers, instruction based on best practices, and the belief that ALL students can learn,” said Tollgate Principal Laurie Godwin (pictured above, center).
