The Aurora Public Schools Department of Grants Management is pleased to announce the Colorado Department of Education’s $80,000 award to APS in support of the Even Start Program.

The Aurora Public School District’s Even Start Program is beginning its ninth year of operation. The purpose of the Even Start Program, as outlined in federal legislation, is to help break the intergenerational cycle of poverty and low literacy by providing a unified family literacy program for low-income families.

Even Start has three related goals:

  1. to help parents improve their literacy or basic education skills,
  2. to help parents become full partners in educating their children,
  3. to assist children in reaching their full potential as learners.

We would like to congratulate APS’ Even Start staff on achieving these goals and producing incredible success rates with their students and families. Paula Niemi, Grants Coordinator/Even Start Project Director and Tammye Pirie, Grant Development Coordinator worked diligently to keep this valuable program grant funded.
