APS Honors Principals of the Year

APS has named two outstanding educators as 2009 Distinguished Principals of the Year:

  • Michelle Barone, Montview Elementary - elementary level
  • Jinger Haberer, Hinkley High School - secondary level

The award recognizes successful principals who have provided outstanding leadership.

fulton barone-newberryBarone has more than 20 years of experience as an educator in APS and is starting her third year as Montview principal. Formerly, Barone held administrative and teaching positions at North Middle School and Fulton Elementary. Her book, Out of the Ordinary, which chronicled the lives of immigrants working in the Ludlow mines, was nominated for the prestigious Newbery Medal.

DL Hinkley Jinger Harberer (4)Haberer, formerly principal at Aurora Hills Middle School, has been an educator since 1988 and is starting her sixth year with APS. Haberer also teaches an Educational Leadership class as an adjunct professor with the University of Denver and is Nationally Board Certified in Early Adolescence Science.

Barone and Haberer were selected by the APS Leadership Team from a group of principal candidates nominated by the district’s Student Achievement directors. The selection criteria includes achievement results and leadership at the school and district level.

Barone and Haberer will now be nominated for the Colorado National Distinguished Principal of the Year, coordinated by the Colorado Association for School Executives.
