WSHS Partners with Bluff Lake Nature Center
By Lauren Victor, WSHS Development Director
In August, William Smith High School’s 9th grade class and their teachers had their first visit of the year to Bluff Lake Nature Center, a 150-acre reserve that was once part of the buffer zone at Stapleton Airport. Students will be visiting Bluff Lake regularly throughout the year to learn more about the ecology of the area, develop a field guide, complete water quality testing for a national database, and participate in restoration projects. Benefits of this yearlong program include students’ involvement in service learning projects, alongside the opportunity to develop a relationship with the natural world and learn more about their selves and their worldview.
