APS students paid tribute to fallen Colorado veterans during the 2009 Aurora Veterans Salute sponsored by the Aurora Center for Active Adults. Students from Dalton Elementary School joined Superintendent John L. Barry to lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Dalton students also performed patriotic songs, under the direction of Music Teacher and Choir Director Mikey McDermott.
Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps cadets, representing several APS high schools, performed a precision drill. APS student volunteers greeted participants, assisted sponsors with display set up, and served lunch during the event.
More than 800 people attended this year’s 15th annual Veterans Salute. The event is held each year at the Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum.
