Community Partnerships Pay Off for APS Facilities
It’s a rare business that can count on doubling its customer base every year. In only five years, the APS Facilities Rental Department has done just that, increasing the number of customers it serves by 500 percent.
Last year, the department expanded rentals to more than 400 customers, a 20 percent increase from the previous year, and increased revenue to nearly $500,000, an increase of about 10 percent.
The Facilities Rental team attributes its success to building strong community partnerships. The team’s recent accomplishments include:
- Renewing a shared agreement with the City of Aurora for five years at an annual payment increase of 33 percent, or $10,000
- Developing an agreement for the use of facilities with the Community College of Aurora
- Expanding community-based before and after school activities and overseeing 14 outside childcare sites
- Cultivating partnerships with a number of youth-based organizations, including Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Aurora Youth League, I-9 Sports, Aurora Spartans, JAM Basketball, Colorado Fusion Soccer, and Aurora Universal Soccer
Facilities Rental has set a goal of reaching $600,000 in revenues and operating on a self-sufficient basis by the 2010-11 school year.
To ensure customer satisfaction, the department will conduct a performance survey with all current customers this year. To learn more about Facilities Rental, visit athletics.aurorak12.org/facilities-rental.
