APS Students Participate in First Lady’s Mentoring Event

Karen Olivo and Theresa Pena visit Gateway H.S.Students at several APS high schools recently took part in First Lady Michelle Obama’s leadership and mentoring event.

Four William Smith students enjoyed lunch and conversation with Mrs. Obama and Colorado First Lady Jeannie Ritter at the Governor’s Mansion.

Influential women from Mrs. Obama’s leadership and mentoring program also met with students at local high schools. Actress Fran Drescher and Susan Daggett, wife of U.S. Senator Michael Bennet, visited Aurora Central High School.

Tony award-winning actress Karen Olivo and Theresa Peña, President of the Denver Public Schools Board, visited Gateway High School.

The goal of the program is to inspire young females to excel at the highest levels, while instilling confidence.
