Superintendent Winter Holiday Message
Dear APS Teammates and Friends:
It is my wish that, during this holiday season, you are able to enjoy some well-deserved time off to share time with your family and friends. This is a time for great hope.
I have some exciting news and I’d like to congratulate each and every one of you. This week, the Colorado Department of Education announced that APS has earned “Full Accreditation” status for the 2009-10 school year. This is the second highest accreditation rating that school districts can earn. We’ve moved in status from our 2008-09 rating of “Accredited with Improvement Plan.”
This great accomplishment goes along with: having the largest gain in student achievement in 7 years and surpassing the state proficience growth rate in Reading, Writing, Math and Science for the second year in a row with the 2nd largest growth rate in the state of Colorado; having increased our grants to the highest level ever in APS with well over a 45% increase in competitive grants; passing the Bond and Mill Levy last year.
As we move into 2010, I’d also like to congratulate additional 2009 stars:
- The APS Board of Education has earned the 2009 All State Colorado Board Award. There are 178 districts in the state. Our Board is one of only two in the state to earn this honor in 2009. Please congratulate our Board members when you get the chance.
- Aurora Central P.E. teacher Clay Ellis has been named the U.S. Central (6 States) District High School Teacher of the Year by the American Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
- Rangeview counselor Dave West has been named Colorado Counselor of the Year.
- Rangeview chemistry teacher Andy Kramer has been named the 2009 High School Science Teacher of the Year.
- APS math coach Deborah Connor has been named the 2009 Colorado Outstanding Teacher of Mathematics.
During this wonderful holiday time off, please take care of yourselves and your Family and friends. From my Family to yours, please have a safe and restful holiday season and best wishes for the New Year.
Warmest Regards,
JB
