NEWS RELEASE # 52
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

APS APPROVES NEW ATTENDANCE AREAS

After careful consideration, Aurora Public Schools has approved new attendance areas, including boundaries for the P-20 Campus. The changes will go into effect in fall 2010.

Last spring, APS established a committee to evaluate attendance boundaries for schools in the eastern part of the district. The committee solicited feedback on boundary options at several community meetings held in October and November. The decision was based on community and boundary committee feedback.

APS has mailed letters to families of students affected by the attendance area changes. Beginning this month, the district will hold a series of community meetings to provide parents more information about the new P-20 Campus. The P-8 will open in August 2010 and include ninth-grade students during the first year of operation. The high school will open in August 2011 with ninth- and tenth-grade students.

In addition to establishing new attendance boundaries, the decision includes converting Clyde Miller Elementary into a K-8 school. Clyde Miller will open as a K-6 in fall 2010, with seventh and eighth grades added over the following two years. Seventh and eighth-grade students who reside within the Clyde Miller attendance area will attend East Middle School in 2010-11.

All current high school students will continue to attend their 2009-10 home high school.

To view a summary of the attendance area changes and maps showing the new boundaries, visit the APS Web site at www.aps.k12.co.us/boundary.
