Dana Nardello Earns NCTE AwardAt the recent National Council of Teachers of English Convention in Philadelphia, Dana Nardello, Literacy Department Chair and Teacher Leader at Aurora Central High School, received the Leadership Development Award sponsored by Pearson Learning Corporation. Nardello is one of 50 teachers nationwide to be honored with this award. The Leadership Development Award recognizes dynamic secondary teachers who have a positive impact on student achievement, and continuous commitment to professional development and collaboration with colleagues.

“I was absolutely honored to be recognized at the NCTE conference, and proud to represent Aurora Public Schools at the national level. It was nice to take a step back to be recognized for the hard work that I am so passionate about.”
- Dana Nardello

Nardello was nominated for this award by fellow CLAS members, CSU professor Louann Reid and former Aurora Central teacher Julie Bailey, who noted, “Dana’s enthusiasm for teaching and learning extends beyond APS in her contributions to the CLAS Executive Committee and as a conference presenter. She amazes me with her tireless efforts in behalf of students in a diverse urban setting.”

Among Nardello’s outstanding contributions to the teaching of language arts is the collaborative publication of the Aurora Central student writing anthology Melting Box of Crayons. A second anthology is in the works.

Nardello currently serves on the CLAS Executive Committee as Member-at-Large and Urban Schools liaison, and is representing APS as a member of The New Millennium Teacher Leader Think Tank, and The Center for Teaching Quality, conducting research for educational reform.
