School Schedules

The unified bell schedule was created with the collaboration of all of the high school principals and the district.  We reviewed several options over the past 5 months sharing data and research based information before coming up with the final product. The only part that the union had was in making sure that the schedule was within the AEA agreement.  With this schedule we will be able to have greater flexibility with organizing our Small Learning Communities, align classes with CCA as well as Pickens, and enable teachers to experience professional development in other schools.

As for the recycling program, their would be no monies coming out of instruction or the school to run this program.  A win win situation.

 Thank you.

Cell Phone Usage after School

Good day to you.

I presented your observation to my administrative team today and it was unanimous that there is no reason why students cannot use their cell phones after school in the building.  Since this will not cause a disruption to classes and many students contact family for rides after school we have decided to make it policy for students to be able to use their cell phones in the building after 3:00 pm.  The staff will be officially notified tomorrow morning (2.5.08) as well as the campus monitors.

Thank you for your help with with matter.  I continue to appreciate feedback so that we can better our school.

Recycling Question

Thank you Elizabeth for your comment.  This is one of those items that has come up a few times and every time I believe it has been corrected I discover that it has not.  Several times this past year groups have presented the idea of having a recycling club that would oversee a recycling effort here at Hinkley High School. I applauded the idea and gave approval every time.  Yet the club has yet to actually develop.

At other high schools the recycling program is most commonly managed by students. This is a great opportunity to extend learning outside of the classroom.  I would welcome you or anyone else who is serious about making an environmental impact, starting with Hinkley High School, to see Ms. Smith the activities director.  She can make the club official and give direction on how to begin.
