Letter From the Principal
Dear Students, Parents, and Community Members:
Two years ago I began my tenure here at Hinkley with a goal to improve our school in every capacity possible. With that said, I wanted to share with you some data and celebrations that demonstrate Hinkley’s growth over the past 2.5 years:

ACT composite score increased from 15.2 to 16.1 (04-05 to 07-08)

Free and reduced lunch has grown from 42%-62.2% (04-05 to 07-08)
-
Increase in School Accountability Report rating from -0.88 to -.057 (04-05 to 06-07)
-
Increase of student population from 1,265 to 1,871(04-05 to 08-09)
-
Increase in Hinkley graduates from 242 to 279 (05-06 to 07-08) Hinkley H.S. anticipates graduating 350 seniors for 08-09 school year.

Secured State of the Art Technology grant of $214,602 for technology in the classrooms
-
Partnership with CSU ($8,000.00 scholarship or all tuition paid based upon financial need
-
Partnership with CU Health Sciences (Aurora Lights)

Secured funding for the continued implementation of AVID for 08-09 and 09-10. (Funding was cut by the district due to budget constraints)

Doubled the number of students serviced through AVID

Doubled the number of students in our Middle Years Program (A pre-IB program for 9th and 10th graders)

38 students receiving college credit while still in high school this school year

Implemented Wall of Distinction to recognize distinguished Hinkley alumni

Lowest teacher turnover in over 7 years

Walmart Teacher of the Year (07-08) Mrs. Sundberg

Office Max Teacher of Year (08-09) Mr. Nickoloff

March of Dimes state volunteer of the year (07-08) Kerry Schultz

National Board Certified teachers (Amy Nichols, Kerry Schultz)

Distinguished Citizen Award to Mrs. Sundberg

Teacher who is a nationally syndicated TV celebrity (Gionni Thompson)
As you can see Hinkley is on the right track to academic success and recognition. I want to thank all of you for supporting Hinkley and your children. I especially would like to thank the Hinkley High School staff for their countless hours of dedication to help your children prepare for post secondary options. Only with our community stakeholders can we continue our growth in success.
