Shop Room Cafe

By Emily Kotnis

After recently completing a unit of study on poetry, the 6th grade students came together to celebrate all of their hard work! Our poetry celebration was a collaborative effort by Ms. Vanderlip, Mr. Shrum, Ms. Garrido, and Ms. Kotnis. Students presented their poems for their peers while enjoying cookies and hot cocoa (thanks to Mr. Emerson and MYP program) in our “Shop Room Cafe.”

International Towne

By Sean DiLeonardi

On January 21st teams 72 and 73 had the wonderful opportunity to take 90 students to International Town, an organization that offers an incredible cultural experience for middle school students. Our students represented countries from across the globe, including Brazil, Ghana, Ukraine, and Egypt- just to name a few. Once in their teams, students held individual responsibilities such as president and finance minister. Throughout the day the students sold their country’s products, balanced their accounts, traveled the world to explore other areas, and a few were even ticketed and brought to a global tribunal to pay various fines. Many lessons were learned about different people groups and international relationships, and, overall, fun was had by all involved. This unique experience proved to be a trip worth taking on many levels.
