One of our two team 71 classes has been learning about Japan while the other class had science for term 3. The classes then switch science- social studies for term 4. Through a generous grant by the “Sogo Way” we have had Japanese guest presentations. We put the two classes together and got a real treat with teiko drumming! Besides the drummer Toni, she had her husband join in on the flute. Many students and also the team teachers were able to play a beat on the drums. We look forward to seeing our digital pictures. Thank goodness for the drama room, so the loud volume was no problem. We also will have both classes come together on January 16 as the “Butterfly Group” performs a tea ceremony, plays some Japanese music, and explains some of the symbolism of Japanese culture.
We recently read “Brian’s Song” an excellent example of state standard #6, reading and recognizing literature as a record of human experience. Book responses were recently due. Perhaps the best part was the book talks students opted to do as one of their choices. What a great way for students and the teacher to learn about many other different books, themes, and characters.
