Dear Side Creek Families,
This letter is a plea for you to consider joining our Parent-Teacher Organization, (PTO). You are probably not aware of what a PTO really is; who they are or know about some of the great things they do for our teachers and students here at Side Creek. This organization is totally staffed by parent volunteers; anyone can become a part of the PTO! They meet the first Wednesday of every month in the mobile A, from 5:30-6:30 PM. This is the organization that is responsible for providing teachers with extra monies to better equip their classrooms with the little extras that make learning more fun for the students. They also supply the teachers and staff with dinners for all parent –teacher conferences, ILP conferences, as well as providing financial support for students who may not be able to afford school field trips. The PTO generously pays for the buses so that each grade level is able to afford one field trip, without charging parents. With the cost of gas this year, this can be close to $500 for one trip! PTO also generously buys gifts for the entire Side Creek staff for the holidays. The largest gift from the PTO to date is the purchase of our new LED marquee. We will now be able to update information daily, if need be! Fundraising is the main vehicle for all of the good works that they do. Next year there will only be two main fundraisers, though we will continue with our ongoing fundraising through
Campbell soup labels, Box Tops, Tyson food labels and the Southland receipts. We realize that in these tough economic times, there are not always extra monies to be had. As always, we appreciate any support that families can give to the fundraising efforts of the PTO.
As a school, we are very thankful and grateful to the PTO for their continued support of Side Creek. We now need your help. We are having our next meeting on April 8th, with school not resuming until April 6th. We will be nominating a person to take the position of vice president. Our current PTO consists of 4 officers, a parent base of 5 parents that come regularly with Mr. Abdale and me. For a school of almost 700 students from all over the world, we feel that we are not hearing the voices of our populace. We welcome you to become a part of Side Creek through the PTO. If you require translation services, please let us know before the next meeting, we will provide this service as well as childcare. Please think about becoming a part of this worthwhile organization!
