Holocaust speaker Walter Plywaski recently visited South Middle School to share his experiences with students, staff members and parents who packed the media center.
Mr. Plywaski was born in Poland in 1929 and was forced to live in a ghetto in Poland in 1939. At the age of 15 he was brought with his family to the Auschwitz concentration camp. He last saw his mother when she was getting in line to the gas chambers and he witnessed the fatal beating of his father.
He escaped with his brother and was eventually brought to the United States. He had fought as a US soldier in the Korean War and now lives in Boulder, CO.
South students, staff and parents were touched to have Mr. Plywaski share his stories of the struggles the Jews experienced during the Holocaust.
