Counseling

If a student would like to see a counselor, a student must fill out a counselor request form. These forms may be found in many classrooms and in the counseling office. These forms must be turned into the counseling office and the counselors will reply as soon as possible.

Counselors:

There are two counselors at South—Ms. Ortiz and Mrs. Webster. Each sees 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. The bottom line on a student’s schedule indicates the Counselor to whom they have been assigned.

Some of our duties include:

  • See students individually and in groups
  • Small-group counseling
  • Conflict mediation between students
  • Meet with teachers and parents to assist and support students
  • Coordinate the CU Pre-Collegiate Program
  • Coordinate 5th grade orientation
  • Work with Special Education Referrals
  • Contact previous schools for information concerning student needs
  • Coordinate recruitment of 8th graders for the International Baccalaureate Program at Hinkley High School.
