Principal’s Letter - Aug. 2008
Dear Wheeling Parents and Students,
Welcome to Wheeling for the 2008-09 school year. The staff is eagerly getting ready for a new year. We have many exciting things going on and want to share a few upcoming events with you:

New school hours are 7:45-2:15.
First day of school: August 5

Student Drop off/Pick up:
As we enter this busy time of year, please be sure to review safety procedures with your students as they enter and leave the building each day. Pick up for students at the end of the day must be along Alaska St (north of the building) Teachers will be taking the students to that area, and crosswalk supervision will only occur along Alaska St.
Visitors may park in the C wing parking lot between the hours of 8:00 and 2:00, but not during the drop off and pick up times.
Welcome New Students and Families:
We are excited to be adding new families to our Wheeling community of learners. With the change in district boundaries, we look forward to many families from Virginia Court joining us. With the additional number of students, we will be using the former Quest Academy building, now called Wheeling - C Wing, to host the 3rd and 4th grade classes.
International Baccalaureate Primary Years Update:
As many of you know, Wheeling has been investigating and pursuing authorization to become an IB-PYP school. This process takes several years, and we are pleased to announce that we have been granted Candidate Status by the International Baccalaureate of North America. We will continue to implement the inquiry based program over the course of this year, and continue with the process. You will receive information and status of our progress throughout the year. Be sure to ask your students about the IB Learner Profile.
Once again, we welcome you to Wheeling and invite you to visit us and be sure to contact me if you have any questions. I’m looking forward to an outstanding school year.
Sincerely,
Jan Lotter
Principal
