Principal’s Letter - Oct. 2008

October 5th, 2008 in Principal |

Dear Wheeling Families,

During the month of October, I would like to extend a special invitation to participate in the many events that will be happening. At Wheeling we feel communication between home and school is critical in the success of our students. The end of the first quarter will be October 2. Our first parent teacher conferences will be October 8 and 9; and we are hoping for 100% participation. Our teachers would like to share the progress they have seen in students so far, and provide suggestions of what parents can do at home to help support the learning at school. Students in grades 3-5 have completed their interim assessments, and we will be able to share those results with you at conferences.

Other events:
Our first CPIRC (Colorado Parent Information and Resource Center) meeting was September 23 about helping students with homework. I encourage you to attend future CPIRC meetings which will be held October 2, November 18, December 16, January 20 and February 17.

October 15 is Literacy Night, from 5:30-7:00. Our teachers will be preparing activities for children and adults to do, and ideas for working with students at home to help in developing reading and writing skills.

Our next PTO will be meeting on October 6 and 6:15. The ACES group will be sharing information about the upcom-ing bond and mill levy election. Please make plans to attend to hear about this important issue and how it will impact programs at Wheeling, as well as the rest of Aurora Public Schools. The Accountability Meeting will be October 7 where we will discuss our School Improvement Plan, Parent Involvement Plan and more about the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program.

As you can see, we have many opportunities for parents to become involved at Wheeling. I also want to let you know about some of the events we have had for students. We had our first PBS Assembly on September 22 where we rec-ognized students for their positive behavior and received I ROCK tickets. We were able to give out over 30 prizes, including two bikes!

We will also be recognizing students for their academic and attendance accomplishments at our Academic Assemblies on October 7. In addition, we will be recognizing our 4th and 5th grade students who made significant growth in their CSAP scores, and those who scored proficient or advanced. As you can see, we have great students, families and staff who are doing great things!

Principal
