Principal’s Letter - Nov. 2008
Dear Wheeling Families,
Welcome back to all from a well deserved fall break. I hope you had time to relax and enjoy some family time. We thank all parents who participated in Conferences in October, and a special thanks to those who came to Literacy Night on October 15. Parents learned many new ideas and activities for developing reading and writing skills for our children.
Student Achievement – The staff at Wheeling is committed to working on improving students’ skills in reading, writing, math, as well as thinking, and the specials classes. Please be sure you are communicating with the teachers to find out about your child’s progress. Grades 3-5 completed District Interim Assessments which let’s us all know what progress our students are making. We have improved in many areas over scores from last year at this time, with a couple of areas declining. Please help us out by reading with your child, working on math facts, and being sure your child has completed the required homework. We continue to work on thinking skills by encouraging our students to ask good questions.
Thanks PTO – Our staff would like to say THANK YOU so much for all who contributed to our dinner for conferences on October 9. The snacks, salads, and desserts were enjoyed by everyone. We really appreciate our families for your support! Our PTO is collecting ink cartridges from printers, as well as Box Tops for Education. Please drop off your donations in the office. The next PTO Meeting will be Tuesday, December 2 at 6:15 p.m. Please make plans to attend! PTO will be hosting a Craft Night on December 11 – hope to see you there.
PBS – Our next PBS Assembly will be November 18. This year students receive I ROCK tickets when they are showing the IB Learner Profile Behaviors of Inquirer, Reflective, Open- Minded, Caring, and Knowledgeable. Students will be learning about the rest of the IB Learner Profile characteristics throughout the year.
Sincerely,
Jan Lotter
