On February 17th, room 308 , current LCR teacher( Scott Parsons and Sean DiLeonardi) and former LCR teachers( Jennifer Henderson, Daphne Stephens,Erika Eichelberg, and Alexa Garrido) joined the ATE National conference in Dallas, TX via a teleconferencing connection. The participants asked us questions regarding our use of technology and how professional development was utilized in our classroom. It was a wonderful experience. We are hoping that some of the participants will come visit and see first hand what is happening in Aurora Public Schools.
We have been using nicenet.org to share our pieces of writing, one of our struggles is to get all the students writing up and finding the time to read what everyone has written in the short time we have in class. I am brainstorming ways to encourage students to find time to access a computer outside of the class. I keep coming back to Peter Johnston’s book Choice Words and the way that we talk to our students, I keep playing with the language I use during class, constantly checking to see if what and how I say things effects what the students do when they aren’t in class. I know that it does, I still need to figure out what to say to help them see how to use tech outside of the class is just as important as when they are in class.
The LCR dialogue group started a ning, we are uploading videos and posting discussion questions. This will allow us to commuincate between our meetings and upload video for review. We are looking forward to using this site to help us deepen our dialogue between our meetings.
This podcast is about the book The nine lives of Chloe King. It is a very interesting book that entertains you a lot but that makes you think about life at the same time. The author used good adjectives to describe the characters.
We have been working like crazy in room 308, podacsting, sharing our reading and writing with the students at Children’s Hospital. It has been a great experience for all of us. We have been somewhat overwhelmed with all the things we are trying to accomplish, but each day we are getting better and better at using technology. Happy November
DEAR READERS,
I just finished reading a book called Tears of a Tiger. The book was very good I have finally finished it and I really liked it although it was kind of sad. All the predictions that I had made when I was reading my book were all right for example I made a prediction that said I think Andy is going to end up doing something bad to himself and I was right Andy committed suicide and that’s the part that I think was the saddest. I really recommend this book to everyone who hasnt read it and that likes reading young adult books. I am going to keep reading young adult books as well because I really liked Tears of a Tiger. Right now I’m reading a book called Hole In My Life and I really hope that this book turns out to be good as well it is good so far I hope it doesn’t get boring. But we’ll see if I get to like it.
Sincerely,
CHRISTIAN MONROY
I have just finished What My Mother Doesn’t Know, written by Sonya Sones. This is an amazing book. It has great diction and would be a great mentor source for punctuation. This book takes place in modern day Boston. Sophie, the main character, is a High school student. She has to deal with everyday life as a teenager. I can relate to this book because, I am currently a high school student. Both Sophie and I have/had boyfriends, and lost interest. We both have to deal with being cranky young, girlie, teenagers.
I believe that the overall mood of the book is giddy, and very peppy, or happy. The setting is my main source for this conclusion, high school. Throughout the entire book Sophie likes her boyfriend, Dylan. But then all changes and some feeling gets lost. Diction, also proves the mood as well as the setting. The author uses great terms for happy and excited, she uses words such as joyous or full of excitement. These words help me to realize that Sophie is happy. It also helps me to know when/if her best friends, Rachel and Grace, are happy or just down right jealous of Sophie.
The style and from of this book is poetry. It is all written in poems. This make the book easier to understand. It also helps to understand the diction and the syntax easier. Rather than harder, if it was written in a story form.
I recommend this book to anyone who likes a quick easy read. This book is full of drama as well as “slow dance music” events. I could not put this book down once I started. It is a great book, it would be an amazing mentor text, as well as a great “fun” book to read.

This is a podcast about the short book, Stop Pretending, written by Sonya Sones and created by Breanna Kobetitsch. Stop Pretending by Sonya Sones
I just finished reading my fourth book of the quiarter Charmed by Carrie Mac. I think that this was a really good book and it wasn’t so hard to understand. It had a good plot and characters for this genre.
The main character was Izzy and I think that girl was looking for some attention, willing to do anything. Sadly Izzy didn’t know she was getting mixed up in a sex-trade. Although she does follow through with what the other people are doing. I personaly think she should have respect for herself and that thye authors purpose is to entertain and inform that it’s not right to do anything outrages juat for the attention because it could lead to bad things. Sex-trades do actually happen in real life, but for Izzy it’s just some fun for attention even if it means trouble.
