Week of February 23rd

7th Grade - We are continuing our work with quadratic equations.  By the end of this week, you should feel comfortable with the factored and expanded form of quadratic equations and be able to go from one form to the other.

8th Grade - More transformation, reflections and rotations - only this time on a grid!!  By the end of the week you should be able to write a rule to transform a shape on a grid.

CSAP starts next week!!  I know we are ready and will do great.  You are prepared and should have no trouble scoring well on the exam.  I’m proud of all of you.

Week of February 2nd

It’s going to be a short week!!!

7th Grade -

In CMP - We will be finishing up our unit Growing, Growing, Growing, with a closer look at exponential decay.  You should be able to recognize exponential decay in a table and a graph, and be able to write the equation that goes with each relationship.

During practice time - we will be reviewing linear relationships - just keeping them fresh….

And for number talks - more ratio and proportion.

8th Grade - In CMP -We will be finishing up our unit - Samples and Populations with a look at reading and interpreting scatter plots.

During Practice time we will review histograms, and stem and leaf plots.

For number talk - yes…you guessed it….ratio and proportion!!

Week of January 12th

7th Grade - This week we will be finishing up our work with the Pythagorean Theorem, and starting a unit on exponential growth and decay.

8th Grade - This week we will be completing our review of ratios.  We will then be starting a data unit called Samples and Populations.

Week of December 15th

For this weeks homework - see the homework calender in the right side bar (especially you - Nate!)

7th Grade - This week we will be continuing our work with the Pythagorean Theorem - completing investigations 3.1-3.3 and some additional practice in your book.  Make sure by the end of this week you have a thorough understanding of what the Pythagorean theorem states, and how to use it in problem solving situations.   Our table competitions will end on Wednesday, with the winning 3 tables receiving their ice cream party during lunch on Thursday.  There will be no Friday quiz.

8th Grade -  This week we will be finish the Unit - Clever Counting.  We will complete investigations 3.3-4.2 and take our unit test on Thursday.  Make sure to complete all your homework and be prepared to discuss any questions you may have in class.  We will also be reviewing volume and surface area, the pythagorean theorm, and linear patterns. After our unit test on Thursday, we will have our money auction!!

Week of December 8th

7th Grade - We will continue our work with Pythagoras.  Completing Investigations 2.1 - 3.1.  Make sure you are comfortable with finding the area of squares on dot paper - both upright and tilted.

8th Grade - We will be refining our work with Probability - finding total combinations and using that knowledge to calculate the probability of an event happening.  We will also be looking at network paths, and calculating the total paths through a network.

Week of December 1st

7th Grade - This week we will be starting our new Unit “Looking for Pythagoas”.

Big Ideas for this unit will be: (You should be able to:)

  1. Relate the areas of the squares on the sides of a right triangle to the Pythagorean Theorem.
  2. Use the Pythagorean Theorem to solve problems.
  3. Recognize and use equivalent representations of positive rational numbers and common irrational numbers.
  4. Make connections to square roots as lengths of sides of squares.
  5. Make connections to problem-solving situations with area and perimeter of polygons.
  6. Make connections to the surface area and volume of right prisms and cylinders.

Your Friday quiz will cover the following main topics:

  • Using similarity in problem solving situations.
  • Graphing equations from a table and/or an equation
  • Solving problems using distance on a grid.

8th Grade - This week you will be starting the new unit “Clever Counting.” The main ideas covered in this unit are:

  1. Use a model or counting technique to determine all of the possible outcomes from an experiment.
  2. Solve real-world problems through the use of combinations and permutations.
  3. Analyze the number of paths in a network.
  4. Make connections to making predictions using theoretical probability.

This weeks Friday quiz will cover the following topics:

  • Surface area and volume of cylinders and right prisms.
  • Using the idea of combinations to solve problems
  • Graphing equations and tables.

Week Starting - Nov 17th.

8th Grade - This week for our CMP lessons, we will continue our investigation of exponential growth.  We will also looking at the patterns in exponential decay.  In Fluency, we will be reviewing linear relationships, and how they are represented in tables, graphs, and equations.  We will also be reviewing the surface area and volume of cylinders.

7th Grade -  This week, in Math Modeling, we will look at some non-linear relationships, and concentrate on how to interpret graphs.  For fluency, we will be reviewing linear relationships, and how they are represented in tables, graphs, and equations.  We will also stay fluent with ratio and proportion problems as well as volume, surface area, and order of operations.

Week Starting - Nov 3rd.

8th Grade - We will be starting a new unit called “Growing, Growing, Growing” and learning about exponential functions…how are they the same/different to linear functions.

7th Grade - We will be continuing our unit on surface area and volume. This week we will be learning how to find the surface area and volume of cylinders.

Week Starting - Oct 20th

Arithmetic link shown in class!!  Figure out why it works.

8th Grade - You should be comfortable using the Pythagorean theorem to solve problems including the ’special’ 30, 60, 90 degree triangles. This week we will be looking at irrational numbers and where they might fall on the number line. We will also be reviewing how to multiply decimals.

7th Grade - We will continue our work on the concepts of volume and surface area. We will have the opportunity to put our new learning into use by working on a Landscape design webquest.

This is the LAST week before fall break. Stay focused and in charge of your own learning!!!
