Jay Vean put together a great flipchart that demonstrates how to change the setting on XE40 projectors to make the fan work harder. This is important to the life of these projectors. At this altitude the life span of projector bulbs is shortened. If you turn your projector fan up, then it will keep it cool and it will last much longer.

I have found this to be a solution for many of our issues with the orange XE40 projectors that come with the Promethean +2 systems. Sanyo did some research and found they shut down at 11 deghrees cooler at our altitude than they do at sea level. This small adjustment will keep them cooler, keep them from shutting down on their own, and will keep them from tripping their thermal switches. The unit will no longer power up after the switch is tripped. This is something we would need to come and reset for you.
You’ll notice the projectors run just a little louder after you set the fans at the higher speed, but they will definitely run for longer too. I’d say that’s a fair trade off.
Lamps for this projector cost just a little less than $350 so we need to do our best to make them last as long as possible. Keep the filters as clean as possible so air is always easily able to flow through the unit and please shut them down if you are not going to use them for more than 30 minutes. I know they go into sleep mode, but the fan is still running and I’ve heard that this still wears on the lamp indirectly even though it is not projecting an image.
With a little effort we can make these last a very long time, just as long as you take an ACTIV role in the process. =)
