First Weekend and Welcome Breakfast.

The first weekend was a time to spend with the families and to get acclimated to the time changes. As I write this at 8 in the morning it is midnight in Aurora. All of the students have settled into his / her family and are already doing a lot of activities. Students have been to stores, castles, the Black Forrest, and more stores. Students have started to go to classes with the students. Several have already given presentations to the classes about American culture and the joy of living in Colorado. Mrs. Mills, Mrs. Dyrdahl, and I have been to a grade 13 English class. They had the opportunity to ask questions about our school. They also were interested in politics. We had several students from the exchange 2 years ago in the class, so it was nice to reconnect with them and get their impressions of schools from their visit. The most important thing that they spoke of was the lack of windows and that it was sad that our students couldn’t see outside during classes. I love sunlight myself so I agree with them. They really enjoyed their time at Rangeview and spoke very highly of the staff and students that they met while there.

We had a nice welcome breakfast on Montag during 2nd class. The Director, Herr Grossman, spoke to us about the importance of exchanges and getting to know and share other cultures. It is great to embrace diverse ideas in a natural setting and where there is a great deal of interaction with the students. We look forward to our trip on Tuesday to Gengenbach and learn about a 500 year old celebration of Carnival.
